Surf & Art

If there’s a coffee table book, or any table book, I highly suggest picking up It’s Surf & Art by Veerle Hansen. Think – a beautifully designed compilation of contemporary surf artists from all over the world. Ok, I happen to be one of the artists in it, too.

Veerle Hansen is no stranger to making a kick-ass surf-themed book. Her book, Surf & Stay was a hit worldwide, and I’d suggest picking that up too. The more surf-themed books in your possession, the better. And she knows how to put together a beauty. Especially this newest one.

I’m honored, flattered, and at times flabbergasted to be included in such a cool and well-done book. Plus, SO many of these artists I admire, and have their art in our home (Ahem, Jonas Claesson) – I think I need to add a few Johny Viera pieces to my collection too. That dude’s watercolors are badass and brilliant.

There are artist interviews paired with the features of their works, so you get to know each persona a little bit, too. It’s been a rather lovely way to discover more artists with so many different styles. Wins across the board. Literally.

Anyways, stuff like this gives me permagrin, and I love that this book was published. Being included in it was the icing on the cake.

Now, go pick up a copy and prepare to be whisked away to soooooo many stunning scenes and visual love letters to surfing.

Thank you, Veerle, and wishing you and all the artists so many fun glassy waves, or barrels, or just uncrowded surfs, soon.

Also, thanks so much for reminding me that I am WAY overdue for a surf-themed piece or two, too.

Surf & Art – Where to buy: It’s available at Anthropologie, Amazon and Target, and if you’re in Europe you can buy it directly from Lannoo Publishing’s site or at Haven Surf I’ll be sure to add more places to buy, too when I get them.

**I was also thrilled to ship a bunch of originals out to Belgium for the book launch/art show Veerle put together to showcase artists featured in the book. Yup. I had a little swagger in my step when I went to FedEx that day. I dunno. When you paint in a tiny, messy corner and are by yourself the majority of the day, it’s surreal to send paintings to have people see them in Europe.
